"Wu Laoshi seems to really understand how to interact with her students and get them excited about learning Mandarin. I think that she's definitely in the right profession and is a wonderful guide for students. I'm going to miss her and how she made speaking Mandarin feel personal to me even though it's not my native language and I know very little. She was able to create a collective environment for the classrather than a feeling of being on your own. She's such an amazing person and I feel very lucky to have been her student."
"Besides presenting language lessons using best practices in foreign language teaching, Jinhui delighted us with her laughter and boundless intellectual curiosity. She is a talented, determined, compassionate teacher who is capable of teaching a wide array of students with a range of abilities and needs. I recommend her most highly."
"Jinhui is truly excited about the learning progress of her students. And with incredible patience engages even the least prepared learner. In her teaching she stimulates interactions and active use of the language both between the students and her, as well as between the students. She takes advantages of every possible teaching elements, whether it is in showing cartoons, pictures, video sequences, or even classical text, always looking for a context rich setting to introduce new grammar points of vocabulary."
"Jinhui is Amazing. Even on days when she was very stressed she was always fully attentive and extremely helpful in teaching and answering any questions. She was approachable and understanding, but also very professional and knowledgeable in the subject matter. "
"We are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful Chinese instructor! Her enthusiasm and clarity makes Chinese a real joy to learn."
"I loved the creative freedom we were given for our oral exams. Being able to rap, sing, and perform skits made speaking mandarin a lot more fun. It made orals less scary and it also created a fun and supportive environment in the class as the audience and performer go to interact."
"The professor placed more emphasis on reading aloud text, preparing presentations, and writing characters than my class had to do last semester [taught by another professor], and it improved our Chinese a lot more than last semester. I felt a lot more engaged with the material this semester. My reading and my speaking has become more fluid because of this professor."
"I liked what we did for the oral sections of our mid-terms and finals. I think it was a good way to make students work on our speaking and it built a better class community. I also liked some of the extra stuff you included in the coursework that was not in the textbook. I think the in class exercises are extremely useful for furthering my grasp of the language, while also being low stakes and enjoyable."

" I wouldn't change anything about this class. I think it's the best class I've taken at Reed." "She explained beyond the slides as well, ensuring we all fully understood the topic." "I liked the variety of stories we read in class and I found the journal project helped me develop my thoughts on them and make sure I readthem. I also liked the creative writing project!" "I liked the material first and foremost, it was very interesting. I also appreciated how organized the professor was and how smoothly each class went, I felt that I was able to walk away with a lot of information each time." "The primary sources we read in class allowed to gain a deeper understanding and the discussion in class really solidified the ideas we were discussing." "I really enjoyed this class. The topics were very interesting and they were taught in a very compelling way." "She knew what she was talking about and helped us understand a concept if we had questions." "I really liked how much she challenged us to think critically about why the things we were learning were important. It was fascinating to learn about Chinese religions, and I usually am really bad at both history and geography, so I was surprised with how much I got out of the course." "I enjoyed the short videos we watched that was related to what we were learning about or a discussion. The professor always showed kindness towards her students and was very patient with the amount of time needed to take our weekly quizzes. She is committed to her courses as well as very reliable when it comes to responding to emails." |
